Developed by Dr Stephen Porges, the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a five-day auditory intervention designed to reduce stress and auditory sensitivity while enhancing social engagement and resilience. Based on Dr. Porges’ Polyvagal Theory, by calming the physiological and emotional state, the door is opened for improved communication and more successful therapy.
Esther Martinez uses SSP to help patients of all ages experiencing any of the following symptoms:
- Social and emotional difficulties
- Auditory sensitivities
- Anxiety and trauma related challenges
- Stressors that impact social engagement
Clients and parents are reporting the ability to better interpret not only human speech, but also, importantly, the emotional meaning of language. When interpersonal interactions improve, spontaneous social behaviours and an enhanced ability to learn, self-regulate and engage are often seen, and enable more successful learning.
There have been good results with clients who have learning and language challenges, inattention, hyper arousal, auditory processing difficulties, vestibular and tactile sensory over-responsivity, anxiety and poor state regulation. These features are seen in many conditions such as autism, ADD/ADHD, Down syndrome, mild traumatic brain injury, misophonia, experience with trauma or anxiety and tinnitus.
SSP is not designed to be a stand alone therapy. It is meant to be coupled with other therapeutic interventions. It is designed to open up, to help the patient to be more available to human social interactions and this means more available to different forms of clinical treatment (medical procedures, psychotherapy, physiotherapy, osteopathy, somatic therapy)
Cost: A five-day intervention includes 5 sessions of an hour each on consecutive days. Avail our SSP package for AED 3,600.
