The OHC team wishes you a very happy, peaceful New Year.
In this newsletter we focus on the harmful effects of stress.
The Osteopathic Health Centre offers a broad range of
treatments for people in pain. We also offer many different
options for management of emotional and mental stress.

The relationship between pain and stress is an unfortunate one. Pain can cause stress, and stress in turn can slow down the healing process, making the pain symptoms much worse. We are faced with a vicious cycle.

Similarly extreme levels of stress can result in tight muscles which in turn can cause pain, headaches and a feeling of general malaise.

At the OHC we recognize the destructive effects of stress and would like to offer our patients several different approaches to stress management as part of our general treatment protocol.

Deep Relaxation Sessions

These sessions are taught by Jade Wood the OHC Yoga teacher, and are offered at both branches of the OHC. Jade has offered patients of the OHC a free 60 minute session of deep relaxation instruction. The session includes yoga for releasing tension from the body, meditation to release tension from the mind, and deep breathing instruction.

  Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a slow and meditative practice. It very effectively releases tension through deep stretches and can settle the busyness of the mind and allow energy to flow freely. By holding poses for 3-5 minutes the connective tissues of the body are gently released which can benefit those suffering from tightness in the hamstrings, lower back, neck and shoulders. Yin Yoga classes are held twice a week at the OHC in both branches. The classes are suitable for beginners and people who already practice Yoga.

Schedule for Yin Yoga:

Saturday 9-10.30am Umm Suqeim
Monday 9-10.30am Mirdif
Tuesday 6.30-8pm Umm Suqeim
Thursday 6.30-8pm Mirdif

Yoga Nidra

For those of you having difficulty unwinding at the end of the day, Yoga Nidra may be exactly what you need. Our Yoga teacher Jade will guide you through a series of releasing techniques for the body and then take you on a meditation journey to free your mind from worry and stress. You will enter a deep state of meditation knows as Nidra - Yogic Sleep -which is recognized as being as beneficial as up to four hours of conventional sleep! These classes are held at the Umm Suqeim Clinic every Saturday evening from 6.30-9pm.

Cranial Osteopathy

This is a very gentle form of osteopathy that is used to treat many different symptoms (read more on our website). One of the lesser known benefits of cranial osteopathy is its ability to release the effects of stress and trauma that have manifested in the body. Physical illness or life threatening situations can create a series of stress responses (inhibitions) to the regular functioning of the body. Cranial osteopathy directly addresses these inhibitions by releasing tension and restoring balance. Book appointments for cranial osteopathy (aside from its many benefits, is also effective for emotional and trauma release).

Meditation for Beginners

A 7 week course starting on the 4th January to the 15th February. Class time is 7-8pm. To register and for further details please contact Jan Maddern on 050 538 5075 or email her at janmaddern@gmail.com.

Psychological Counselling

There are times when the challenges of life can be overwhelming. At such times it is difficult to think clearly, and the resulting confusion can cause a great deal of stress. The OHC offers psychological counseling at both branches. Please write to osteodub@eim.ae for details.
